Winter 2008 Issue Corrections

Some corrections to the Winter 2008 issue of purple SKY, because even we're not perfect.

1. The Jrock Revolution interview with Jonathan Platt was written by Dave Cirone. (Sorry Dave!)

2. In the "Which Band is Right For Me" article under 1, your 4th choice says to go to page 37 to read #5. It's actually page 39.

Thank you for reading purple SKY!

Web Exclusive: Japan Nite 2008 - The Emeralds

The Emeralds photo

This year's Japan Nite tour is only a month away and the intriguing lineup promises a wide variety of artists who specialize in everything from guitar rock to bluegrass ukele playing. There are fresh faces like the pop-friendly girl rock of Scandal and the island rhythms of Beaches and artists new to the tour like the redhot punk act Ketchup Mania and the hardcore Detroit 7. Plus a revamped Petty Booka and rock n' roll tour veterans The Emeralds. purple SKY had a chance to speak with several of these artists for an exclusive web feature.

Just in time for Valentine's Day, first up is SXSW headliners The Emeralds who catch us up on what they've been up to since their feature in purple SKY's spring 2007 issue.

Barnes & Noble Goes Purple

Barnes & Noble, the world's largest bookseller, will begin carrying America's only Japanese rock magazine, purple SKY, at stores across the U.S. in late February, starting with the Winter 2007 edition. In addition to Barnes & Noble, purple SKY will also be available at several independent stores including Trident Booksellers in Boston and Tattered Cover in Denver.

This marks purple SKY's first major bookstore placement and is part of an overall 2007 strategy that will include availability at other major retailers over the next six months. Placement at Barnes & Noble is a significant step towards the goal of reaching out beyond the internet to broader audiences: the anime crossovers, the casual music lovers and the morbidly curious.

The magazine will be supporting the release of the new issue with promotional appearances at Katsucon, an annual Japanese pop culture convention in Washington D.C., later this month. Additional promotions include an in-house promotional video on the purple SKY website and various other internet outlets.

purple SKY Appears in MUCC's New DVD Footage

Who is that awkward, dashing, Japanese speaking lad with dark hair interviewing MUCC on the Bonus DVD that comes with the limited edition of their new single HORIZONT? Why it's purple SKY magazine's very own boo. Yes, that's me dredging a print-worthy answer from a still groggy Miya. If you liked what you saw and heard there, you'll love knowing what they were actually saying. And now you can! purple SKY magazine (notice the name at the bottom of the screen?) Fall edition features full English translations of those portions of the interview (except my parts) and much, much more (photos and live shots). And can I just point out that the Freddy glove Tatsurou is scratching at the screen with was from our botched attempt to get them to dress up for our photo shoot? Go buy a copy (Catalog # UPCI9510) and see me, Sakura, Roger, Jason, and Sarah (front row and center) get our 15 minutes of fame.

Fall Photo Contest

To celebrate our Halloween issue of purple SKY, we ask our readers to join us in a photo contest. Pick up a copy of the Fall 2006 issue featuring MUCC on the cover and take a picture of the magazine in a spooky or Halloween inspired setting. The most creative photo will receive a signed copy of MUCC's CD, Houyoku!

The 2006 Halloween contest is open to everyone. Contestants must submit a picture featuring the Fall 2006 issue of purple SKY to be entered into the contest. The photo must be an original work (photo setting must have been taken by the contestant) and plagiarism will immediately disqualify the contestant. Photo entries must be at least 300 dpi.
